4 out of 5: The Sports
Magazine for You
jlhensell, January 09 2005
I have a Joe Friday approach to sports. 'Just the facts
ma'am,'is my mantra. Sometimes Sports Illustrated
conforms to my wishes; sometimes not. The weekly sports
magazine began during the era of good feeling in post
war America. Eddie Matthews, the Milwaukee Braves steady
third baseman, was on the first cover. A fatherly Dwight
Eisenhower presided over a peaceful and prosperous
America. Our sports heroes were kind and simple men who
always did the right thing (or so we thought).
Sports Illustrated has changed with the times while
remaining the premiere weekly sports magazine. It is far
superior to its rivals, especially the upstart "ESPN The
Magazine". It's a magazine you might enjoy.

I like Sports Illustrated because it reviews the week in
sports and previews upcoming games and events. There are
interesting features on athletes such as Tiger Woods and
Ken Griffey Jr. and sections that are just what's going
on in one particular sport. In the beginning of the
magazine there are great pictures of things that
happened over the last week and little descriptions of
them. My favorite part is "Go figure." It is a bunch of
interesting statistics from some part of sports. I also
like "Blotter" it is a collection of little bits of
humorus news. My only complaint about this magazine is
the ad's. There are way too many of them. It seems like
about 1 out of every 2 pages is an advertisment. It can
really be annoying and distracting but a lot of
companies want to advertise to all the millions of
people who get this magazine every week. |

out of 5: Ins and Outs of all sports
Daryl, January 06 2005
This is a great magazine for any sports fan of any age
and any preference. This magazine has it all from
editorials, to in-depth articles, to the most minute
facts one could possibly need to know. I have been
reading this magazine religiously for years now, and I
love it more than ever. (Even though I am a baseball
nut, and it is the off-season with few articles). But
there is so much to read in this magazine, on such a
variety of sports and interests. It is incredibly
informative and interesting. I especially like Reily's
editorials found on the last page of each publication.
There is no better reading for a sports fan than Sports
Illustrated. If you are a sports fan, and don't
subscribe, or even read it for that matter, it is long
past due that you do. Life for the ultimate sports fans
isn't the same without magazines such as this one. |

out of 5: A Great magazine Because...

I have never read another sports magazine that provides
the complete coverage that S.I. does. I have read Sport
and Sporting News and found them to be less than
desirable for many reasons. If you are going to spend
your money on a sports magazine, do it on S.I. |

Sports Illustrated remains the foremost general sports
magazine in America. They cover all sports, from the
NFL, to the NBA, to racquetball and rowing. The staff of
writers turns over every few years, but they manage to
hire new writers of equal or superior talent. While the
format of the magazine has changed somewhat in the past
few years, becoming more "hip" and trendy, which may
disappoint some lifelong readers (such as myself)they
have maintained their high quality of work. |
